Revolution in Crypto Miner Hosting: A Comprehensive Analysis

Introduction: Looking for a Silent Box Miner

As a keen hobbyist miner, I have been on a constant search for a silent box miner that strikes the right balance between performance and power usage. The reason behind this search was a proposition from a relative who owns a business and who kindly offered to host my small box miners at their premises. The conditions imposed were that the miner had to run on a normal outlet, be virtually silent, and not demand too much power – all reasonable requirements considering the office setting.

Finding the Perfect Box Miner

If you’re thinking this isn’t an easy feat, you’re not wrong. But with your suggestions on Discord and YouTube along with my own research, I settled on two different miners that checked all the boxes. The first was the IPV1 Mini Classic Wi-Fi from IPoo, which I found on eBay. Using only 103 watts, this model delivers about 130 megahashes per second. The fans spin way down, making it nearly silent, ideal for an office setting.

Testing the IPV1 Mini Classic Wi-Fi

Before moving forward, I decided to test the performance of this miner. After letting it run for minutes, I found that the miner was producing around 130 megahashes per second at 118 watts, which was in line with the specifications. The miner was also dead-silent, registering only 38 decibels – a testament to its low power usage and optimized cooling.

Getting More Silent Miners

Buoyed by my success with the IPV1 Mini Classic Wi-Fi, I decided to get a couple more. One of them was traded with a Discord member for two other IPoo miners that offered better hashrates, but were not as quiet. Unboxing this miner, it was clear that it had been well looked after.

The Jas Miner X4 Brick from Jingle Mining

Encouraged by my progress, I got another model that was reputed to be even more energy-efficient and quiet: the Jas Miner X4 Brick from Jingle Mining. Using a mere 30 watts, this unit can produce 65 megahashes per second. Although the hashrate is less than half that of the IPV1 Mini Classic Wi-Fi, the power usage is significantly less. Plus, given that the business owner will be footing the bill for the electricity, every watt saved is a bonus.

Repurposing Defective IPoo Miners

Exciting things were already happening when another community member sent me a box of broken IPoo miners. These were miners that would not work due to reported fan errors. While normally this would spell doom for a miner, there was one trick that I could try – reverting to the original firmware which is far more stable. I hope that by doing so, I will be able to get these miners working and add them to my quiet mining set-up.

Conclusion:

It’s important to remember that as a hobbyist miner, ROI is not the be-all and end-all. The goal is to enjoy the process, experiment with different hardware and strategies, and hopefully turn a profit while at it. This particular experiment aimed at setting up quiet miners in an office environment is just another manifestation of that spirit. If you too are a miner who enjoys the process as much as I do, I encourage you to follow along with my journey on future updates.

  2. What's up bro. Keep up the great work. Question . Maybe you can answer . The little lucky miner v6 . Solo bitcoin . You think if I get a few more , it will better my changes on finding a block? It's doing 495 or so GH . ? I have two ipollos mining bitcoin on unmineable . ( ETC to BTC ) that's only 320MH total. Is there a way to mine , anything solo on ipollo ? 😢thanks

  3. Thanks for the video! Unfortunately the iPollo V1 mini classics only have 3.6 GB of useable ram, the current Dag size of ETC is 3.57GB. They will stop mining in a little over a year unless there is an upgrade for the RAM.

  4. Just remember that your PDU is 240V, so the converter probably doesn't change the voltage to 120V. Double check the voltage coming out of that plug before plugging in 120V only PSU's…
